The Indian campaign at the Thailand Masters Super 300 tournament came to a disappointing end on Friday as all remaining shuttlers, including former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth, crashed out after losing their respective quarter-final matches.
Kidambi Srikanth, currently ranked 47th in the badminton world rankings, suffered a straight-game defeat in the men’s singles quarter-final against China’s sixth seed Wang Zhengxing. Srikanth lost 21-17, 21-16 in a match where Wang dictated the pace from the outset. Despite a competitive first half in both games, Srikanth could not sustain momentum, and Wang sealed the victory convincingly.
India’s promising young shuttler, Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian, put up a valiant effort but ultimately succumbed to China’s Xuan Chen Zhu in a thrilling encounter that lasted an hour and 10 minutes. Subramanian won the first game 21-19 after an impressive comeback from 12-18 down. However, Xuan Chen Zhu responded strongly in the next two games, securing a 19-21, 21-18, 21-13 victory.
The Indian duo of Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and K Sai Pratheek in men’s doubles, seeded eighth in the tournament, faced a stiff challenge from Indonesia’s second-seeded pair Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Daniel Marthin. Despite a spirited effort, the Indian pair lost 21-19, 21-18, bringing an end to India’s hopes in the doubles’ category.
India’s final contender for the day, Rakshitha Ramraj, also exited the tournament after a hard-fought battle against Thailand’s Thamonwan Nithiittikrai. Rakshitha won the first game 21-19 but could not maintain her rhythm in the next two games, losing 14-21, 9-21.
With these results, India’s campaign at the Thailand Masters 2025 came to an end, with players showing promise but falling short against strong international opponents. .
