Beth Mooney, on Saturday, February 1, became the first Australian Women’s batter to score hundreds in all three formats of international cricket. The left-hander achieved the feat on Day 3 of the Day-Night Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Mooney reached the landmark off 155 balls in the first session of the day’s play and eventually went on to score 106 runs off 173 balls with seven fours.

England’s Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont, and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt are the other three female batters with centuries in all three formats. Mooney made sure that Australia took a massive lead of 270 runs in the first innings to put themselves in a position of strength in the pink-ball Test. Mooney has been a crucial member of the Australian team since making her debut back in 2017.

Annabel Sutherland continues dream run

Prior to Mooney making hay, it was Annabel Sutherland, who continued her dream run in Test cricket. Sutherland became the first woman to hit a Test hundred at the iconic MCG. The youngster, who plays for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), equalled Betty Wilson and Jill Kennare’s record for most Test centuries by an Australian woman (3).

In the post-tea session on Day 2, Sutherland got to her hundred off 193 balls. In six Tests thus far, Sutherland has notched 586 runs at an average of 83.71. Last year, Sutherland also made the record for the fastest Test double century against South Africa. But later, India’s Shafali Verma broke her record with a 194-ball double hundred against the Proteas at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Sutherland also found her form after she struggled in the limited-overs formats in the Women’s Ashes. In six innings, she made only 54 runs with a top score of 18. Sutherland had also racked up back-to-back ODI hundreds against India and New Zealand.
