Watch: Sanju Samson does an MS Dhoni, calls DRS right after stunning catch in Rajkot

Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson redeemed himself for a couple of questionable Decision Review System (DRS) calls by getting a crucial one spot on during the third T20I between India and England in Rajkot on Tuesday, January 28.

After India had wasted a review early in the innings, Samson convinced captain Suryakumar Yadav to take another after Jos Buttler missed a reverse sweep. The real-time visuals did not show a significant deflection, but Samson was convinced there was an edge. He was so confident that he was the only one to appeal for a catch behind, even when the bowler was not entirely sure. | 3rd T20I: Updates |

Suryakumar trusted his wicketkeeper’s judgement and went for the review. His faith was rewarded as slow-motion replays and the snickometer confirmed a faint edge.

The catch was outstanding, as Samson, blindsided by Buttler’s switch in stance, stayed low and reacted swiftly to hold onto the deviation.

Samson’s sharp glovework and decisive DRS call reminded fans of MS Dhoni, who rarely made an incorrect review call. He celebrated in typically composed fashion after the third umpire adjudged Buttler out.

It was a pivotal moment in the match, as Buttler, who had been in good form, looked set to accelerate after the powerplay. The England captain was dismissed for 24 off 22 deliveries.

The wicket triggered England’s collapse, with Varun Chakravarthy dismantling the visitors’ batting line-up. The spinner picked up a five-wicket haul, conceding just 24 runs in his four overs. He claimed the scalps of Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer, as England’s brittle middle order struggled against his guile and deception.

Varun became only the third Indian bowler after Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav to take more than one five-wicket haul in T20Is. England were eventually restricted to 171 for 9 in their 20 overs on what was a good batting surface.
