'Fantastic for Indian cricket': Former player calls for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to continue play domestic cricket

NEW DELHI: With all attention on the Ranji Trophy thanks to the presence of superstars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan called for the trend to continue.
While Virat Kohli is playing for Delhi against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the Elite Group D game, India Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma had turned up for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir in the Elite Group A clash last week.

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) had made it mandatory for Team India cricketers to play domestic cricket after successive Test series defeats against New Zealand at home and against Australia Down Under.
Calling for the trend to continue, Irfan Pathan posted on his official X handle: “It’s great to see youngsters playing with or against players like Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma in domestic cricket. It wasn’t happening for many years, but it’s happening now. This is fantastic for Indian cricket. Hope the current Indian regulars make it a trend to play domestic cricket.”

Some runs in the Ranji Trophy would immensely help both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as they are going through a horrendous run with the bat.
Apart from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India cricketers Rishabh Pant (Delhi), KL Rahul (Karnataka), Shubman Gill (Punjab), Ravindra Jadeja (Saurashtra), Yashasvi Jaiswal (Mumbai), all played in the Ranji Trophy this season.
