England announce playing XI for first T20I vs India at Eden Gardens

NEW DELHI: England on Tuesday named a strong playing XI for T20I series opener against India at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The first of the five matches is scheduled for Wednesday with both teams playing their first T20I series in the new year.

The side, marshalled by experienced Jos Buttler, will have Phil Salt and Ben Duckett as the openers.
The XI comprises a wide array off all-rounders, giving England as many as seven bowling options against India in the opener.
Harry Brook is Buttler’s deputy for the series.

England XI – Phil Salt (wk), Ben Duckett, Jos Buttler (c), Harry Brook (vc), Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid
and Mark Wood.
England played their last T20I series in West Indies, which they won 3-1 (5-match series).

India, on the other hand, last played T20Is in South Africa, which they won 3-1 (4-match series).
