Hardik Pandya surpasses Shikhar Dhawan in major list after Pune heroics vs England

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya left former batter Shikhar Dhawan behind in the list of highest run scorers for the country in T20Is during the fourth game against England on Friday, January 31 in Pune. Pandya registered his fifth half-century in the format as he played a match-winning innings of 53 off 30 balls with the help of four fours and as many sixes in his innings.

He got involved in a massive 87-run stand off 45 balls with Shivam Dube (53 off 34) to rescue the Indian innings from a precarious position of 79/5. During his innings, he rose to the fifth spot in the list of highest run scorers for India in the format, leaving behind Shikhar Dhawan, who has 1759 runs to his name.

Pandya now has 1803 runs to his name from 113 matches (89 innings) at an average of 28.17 and a strike rate of 141.63 with five fifties and a highest score of 71. Along with that, he’s also the third-highest wicket-taker for the country in the format with 94 wickets to his name.

Pandya’s all-round brilliance has helped India win a number of matches in his career as he once again rose to the occasion in the fourth T20I. The right-handed batter played some mind-boggling shots throughout his innings and completely changed the course of the game.

One of his most amazing shots of the innings was played against Saqib Mahmood in the 16th over as he came down the track and whacked him for a six straight down the ground. Earlier, Mahmood left India reeling at 12/3 with his triple wicket maiden in just the second over of the innings.

Rinku Singh (30 off 26) and Abhishek Sharma (29 off 19) took the team’s score to 79, from where Dube and Pandya took over and helped the side reach 181/9 in their 20 overs. In reply, England were bundled out for 166 in 19.4 overs and lost the match by 15 runs as India took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series.
