Ranji Trophy: Delhi captain Ayush Badoni falls for 99 against Railways

Delhi captain Ayush Badoni was dismissed for 99 on the second day of his team’s Ranji Trophy match against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday.

Badoni was caught after he miscued a slog sweep off leg-spinner Karn Sharma and walked back for 99 off 77 balls. His sublime knock included 12 fours and three sixes.

Badoni came in to bat after Virat Kohli was dismissed for six runs, leaving Delhi at 86 for three. He then put on 133 runs with Sumit Mathur for the fifth wicket to ride his team out of trouble.

The 25-year-old was appointed Delhi captain after the fourth round of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, taking over from Himmat Singh, who has been struggling for form.

Delhi is coming off a humbling 10-wicket against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy. However, Badoni had a good outing in that game with scores of 60 and 44. He is also the leading run-scorer for Delhi in the ongoing season of the Ranji Trophy, amassing 499 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 83.16.

Interestingly, the off-spinner is also the leading wicket-taker of the side, picking 12 wickets at an average of 14.16.

He was retained by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants for Rs. 4 crore ahead of the season.
